The practice of Barajas consists of an investigation of visuality by the means of an experimentation with different techniques. His work combines his personal experiences, iconography of popular culture and elements of different pictorial traditions. Popular motifs intermingle with technical processes ranging from conventional drawing and painting to abstraction and experimentation with new materials. In this way, Barajas’ work is presented as a visual language that challenges the perception and memory of the viewer. Additionally, he has worked as curator and program coordinator.
José Eduardo Barajas (CDMX, 1990) is the fifth and last resident of the Lagos residency-by-invitation program for local artists.; the program has supported artists active in the local scene with studio space and production budgets. A selection of new drawings and paintings by José Eduardo, produced in residence, will be on show at Material Art Fair, as well as in his studio during Mexico City’s art week (Feb. 3 – 9). An end-of-residency presentation is programmed for March 2020 and will be announced soon.
